COSMOSWorks is one of the most comprehensive and sophisticated Finite Element packages available.  It has both linear and non-linear capabilities for a wide variety of design studies, including stress, deflection, buckling, thermal, heat transfer, natural frequency, drop test and fatigue analyses. COSMOSWorks is also integrated with SolidWorks, which enables us to analyse actual components of a product as they are being designed.

This allows the designers to perfect the design integrity of the components before any metal is cut, plastic moulded or composite formed. The effect of this is to reduce excess material in a design, improve reliability and reduce cost, all moving towards an efficient and complete solution.

This is a contour plot of a weld analysis on an escalator rotor to determine the stresses imposed under the chain loading. The assembly was modelled using SolidWorks and bonded through the welds; the rest of the contact was defined as no penetration which provided small amounts of additional stiffness. The welds were then plotted individually and maximum principal stress probed to determine the cyclic stress range.
