LNG Tanker Electric Motor Bearings
Investigation of catastrophic bearings’ failures on high speed (3600 rpm) high power (1 MW) electric motors driving boil off gas recovery compressors on large LNG tankers. Concluded that bearing selection was outside the speed capability of the bearings and needed to be replaced with plain bearings.
